AFA Board of Directors Create Breeze AFA Council 32...That's Us!

This week, several Breeze Flight Attendants had the opportunity to meet Flight Attendant leaders from the other 19 Airlines at the 51st AFA-CWA Board of Directors (AFA BOD) meeting.  The AFA BOD meeting is held once a year and is a time when elected Flight Attendant leaders come together to discuss the state of our Flight Attendant Union. Breeze Flight Attendants were treated like rock stars with the resounding and vibrant message of "Welcome Home!"  After the welcome, we as Breeze Flight Attendants received at the  AFA BOD meeting, we can attest that "Flight Attendants Supporting Flight Attendants" isn't just a slogan, it is a way of being.

The first order of business at the AFA BOD meeting was welcoming Breeze Flight Attendants to the AFA family and the creation of Breeze AFA Council 32 (MXY Council 32).  We are a part of something great, with other Flight Attendants who are genuine, warm, and kind, who truly love and care about our Flight Attendant careers.

The remainder of this newsletter is about the actions we can take right now to keep building the strength of our Flight Attendant Union!

Take 3 Minutes to Complete Your AFA Membership Application

Our success in negotiations will depend upon our continued solidarity – our action to support each other. We encourage every single Breeze Flight Attendant to complete an AFA membership application by clicking or scanning the QR code below to gain the full benefits of membership. Even without paying a single dollar in dues, our voice and our vote will count at AFA once the membership application is on file. We will not pay dues until we ratify our first contract and achieve the benefits we negotiate.  To fully participate in our Union you must be a member.

Take 2 minutes to Make Your Nomination of Transitional Officers

We encourage every Breeze Flight Attendant to learn more about what it means to represent your flying partners and serve as an AFA leader! In the meantime, two Breeze Flight Attendants will be appointed to serve as President and Secretary of your new AFA Council at Breeze based on feedback from you.

We would be thrilled to hear from you in the next few days about who you would like to have appointed as temporary officers. Please send an email to [email protected] and note in the subject line “Recommendation for Breeze AFA Leadership.”

Nominations close on June 10th at noon and appointments will be made June 11th.

Transitional Officer Responsibilities

Under the AFA Constitution and Bylaws (C&B), Breeze is a single council airline, which means that the Officers represent all of the Flight Attendants across all our bases.  Under AFA's structure, single council officers serve as both the Local Executive Council and the Master Executive Council. Article III.C.3 and Article VII.C.2 of the C&B spell out specific duties for the LEC & MEC President and primary duties for the LEC & MEC Secretary.

Officer responsibilities generally fall into the following categories:

  • Participate in Negotiations - bringing our Flight Attendants priorities forward.
  • Membership Engagement- encouraging members to become involved with our union.
  • Advocating for our Members with management.
  • Financial Oversight - budgeting and allocating members' dues effectively.
  • Communications - communicating with members, management, and others effectively.
  • Meetings - conducting and attending meetings of the union and with management.

To effectively serve and engage the members and meet expectations, the President and Secretary will share responsibilities based on their skillsets.

Ultimately, it is the responsibility of the President to ensure the accomplishment of all duties. The Officers will have full access to the resources of AFA's International Staff Representative, Attorney, and other AFA Staff to guide and assist them.

Membership Engagement Committee

For those who are interested in being involved with our Union, each Breeze base will have a Membership Engagement Committee.  This committee is responsible for systematic engagement of Breeze AFA Flight Attendant Members to achieve a vital connection of two-way communication between Breeze AFA Flight Attendants and Breeze AFA Leadership.

The committee structure encourages a high level of participation from Breeze Flight Attendants to build solidarity and power to take action in support of Contract Negotiations and to defend and enhance our Flight Attendant profession.

This will be a committee open to any Breeze AFA Member who wants to support and build our Flight Attendant Union.

More information about this committee will follow Transitional Officer appointments.

Take 15 Minutes to Participate in the Breeze AFA Preliminary Contract Negotiations Survey

We have started our next steps to working towards our First Contract. A helpful step in our negotiations process is for all of us to participate in the Breeze AFA Preliminary Contract Negotiations Survey!

Negotiation priorities are determined by each of us!  There will be another official negotiation survey, but this preliminary survey will help ensure no time is wasted to get us started on work for our contract. All Flight Attendants at Breeze, whether eligible to participate in NMB vote or not, are able to take this preliminary survey. Our Breeze AFA Union wants to hear every voice!

Submit your priorities through the Breeze AFA Preliminary Contract Negotiations Survey.

Please use the comment boxes throughout the survey if you have anything to add.

AFA is our Union and negotiations are about us. Take the survey and share it with all of our flying partners!

With our Union, we are better together; we are stronger together!
