The NMB Election Process

Yesterday, February 6th, was another important threshold to win our Breeze AFA Flight Attendant Union! We’ve heard a lot of questions from you about the National Mediation Board (NMB) election process, so let’s review that process.

Let’s Review the NMB Election Process

Step 1: Authorization Cards signed by an Overwhelming Majority of Breeze Flight Attendants ✅

Breeze Flight Attendants far exceeded the majority show of support needed to call for an election. The AFA Authorization Cards were filed with the National Mediation Board on January 22. The NMB then notified Breeze executives that we filed for our Flight Attendant union election.

Step 2: Management to provide a list of Breeze Flight Attendants to the NMB ✅

Breeze executives were given 10 days to provide the NMB with the list of eligible voters by February 6th. The company and their “labor consultant” (FordHarrison, aka the union-busting law firm) took all 10 days to provide the list to the NMB. According to the NMB rules the list of potential eligible voters must contain all individuals on the Flight Attendant seniority list as of the last day of the last payroll period prior to January 22, 2024. This date according to NMB rules is January 15, 2024. The list does not include management who are on the seniority list.

The NMB will then compare the authorization cards we signed with the Flight Attendant list and confirm majority support by calling for an election.

Remember: Breeze Management never sees our authorization cards. The NMB keeps authorization cards confidential. This is why the NMB asks the Breeze executives to produce their own separate list of eligible Flight Attendants.

Step 3: Call for election

Once the NMB certifies our authorization cards, a representational election will be announced with opening and closing dates. The NMB will mail voting information to the address you have on file with Breeze Airways. The envelope from the NMB will have the information you need to vote YES for Breeze AFA and how to mail back your ballot.

Step 4: Breeze Flight Attendant Representation

When a majority of Breeze Flight Attendants vote YES for AFA representation, the NMB will issue a certification that legally requires Breeze executives to bargain with Breeze AFA. We, as Breeze Flight Attendants, will then have a legally recognized voice at work to negotiate for job protections and quality of life work rules necessary for long-term and sustainable careers!

Remember, there are NO DUES until we have a RATIFIED CONTRACT.

Now is the time for us as Breeze Flight Attendants! We are on track to win our Flight Attendant Union, so we can focus on making our airline and our careers strong and successful. While management will try to make certain incentives sound good, it is not a contract. Without a negotiated and signed union contract, management can take away anything in the blink of an eye.

After we overwhelmingly “Vote YES for AFA” we will have a seat at the table to negotiate for improvements to our career and a secure future.

The Association of Flight Attendants is nearly 50,000 members strong, representing Flight Attendants at 19 airlines. By becoming an AFA member, we will have a vital role in shaping our future. For more than 75 years, AFA has represented Flight Attendants on the job, on Capitol Hill, in the media, and at the bargaining table to improve pay, work rules and quality of life. AFA is comprised of Flight Attendants working at charter, mainline, regional, low cost and niche airlines.

When we join together, we amplify our voice and lift the standards for all of us as aviation’s first responders.

The Plane Truth

Management is saying they can’t give us a raise or make improvements during this process or when we have our union. Is this true?

No, this is another management misinformation tactic. Management is always welcome to improve our pay and work life at any time. We’ll take a raise and a union too!

As we know from experience, while corporate may boast about an improvement, sadly at the same time they have quietly taken other things away. With our Union, we’ll lock in pay and work rules that management cannot change without our consent. While management is claiming they want to give us something…what has our real experience been and why are they making this claim now?

Vote “Yes for AFA” to claim our union and our voice for Breeze Flight Attendants! Learn more about how we can claim our union for ourselves at BreezeAFA.org.
